POTS is an organization that provides food and a community lifeline to people in the Bronx. POTS believes that every person should have access to the essentials of life and the support necessary to achieve stability and ultimately self-sufficiency.
Ever since 1982, when Fr. Ned Murphy, S.J. came to Resurrection asking for help to fund a soup kitchen in the Bronx, our parish has had a very special relationship with POTS. The money raised by Resurrection in 1986 enabled Fr. Ned to buy a building to house a soup kitchen and homeless shelter.
For over 30 years, every Thanksgiving and Christmas, members of Resurrection parish join the people at POTS to provide a holiday feast for over 800 people at Our Lady of Refuge Grammar School in the Bronx. Our parishioners donate all the food, prepare it, serve it and clean up after the meal.
The POTS Thanksgiving and Christmas Feasts are very special and rewarding events for our parish. In order for the events to run smoothly, it is very important that our Parishioners sign up online for food donations and work shifts as early as possible. We need to make sure we have enough food and volunteer coverage to feed the hundreds of grateful people who look forward to these lovingly prepared and served holiday meals.
The POTS team is happy to announce that after a long pandemic hiatus, we will be returning to our former format of hosting a sit-down luncheon for our guests! PLEASE use the button below to sign up to donate one or more of the items we need to serve our guests a beautiful hot meal.
If you are too busy or lack the oven or fridge space but want to donate a turkey for the event:
If you are interested in getting involved with POTS outside of the Resurrection managed Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, please visit the POTS website. You will find individual and group volunteer applications with a large number of opportunities to choose from.
